U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz was elected as the Republican nominee for Florida’s 1st Congressional District.
The controversial and polarizing Congressman defeated Marine Corps veteran and former FedEx executive Mark Lombardo.
The race wasn’t close, as the incumbent garnered nearly 70% of the vote. Lombardo received about 24% of the vote while Greg Merk had 6%.
Lombardo released a series of attack ads against Gaetz over the summer, with the last two suggesting Gaetz was “the informant” who led the FBI to raid former President Donald Trump‘s Mar-a-Lago estate.
Trump endorsed Gaetz on his Truth Social app days before the election.
