City councilman found guilty of battery

by Margaret Willard

A jury  found Bonifay City Councilman Robert Dewey Urquhart guilty last week of misdemeanor battery.

The verdict comes months after Urquhart got into an argument while inside of the Council Chambers.

According to a report, Bonifay touched a man’s chest and said “don’t ever call my house like that again” after the man dialed him before a meeting about an issue .

Urquhart must write an apology letter to the victim and pay $730 in court fees, according to a local news outlet. He must also serve six months prohibition.

Urquhart described the verdict as a “miscarriage of justice.”
