A judge has ruled that Rebekah Jones cannot run as a Democrat in Florida’s 1st Congressional District.
“It’s not a happy decision to make,” Leon County Circuit Court Judge John Cooper said in a virtual hearing. “I think that anyone who puts themselves out for office should be commended.”
Last year the Legislature passed a law requiring those running in a partisan election must be a registered member of the party for a year before qualifying in June.
The case went to court after Democratic candidate Peggy Schiller filed a lawsuit against Jones, who said she would appeal the ruling.
