As Ole Miss made a memorable run to win the College World Series, the team was driven in the closing game by sophomore T.J. McCants, a Pensacola Catholic alumnus.
The team was down 2-1 to the Oklahoma Sooners in the bottom of the eighth inning. Needing a spark, McCants approached the plate.
He delivered, smacking a single. Then, McCants advanced to third base after another single from Justin Bench. A third single from Jacob Gonzales sent McCants home as the game’s tying run.
Two additional runs sealed the 4-2 win, but McCants will be remembered for launching the rally.
