Jimmy Patronis announces grant funds for Panama City Beach firefighters

by Margaret Willard

Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis visited the Panama City Beach Fire Department on Monday to announce the state will send $15,000 in grants through the Firefighter Cancer Decontamination Grant Program.

Patronis has advocated for increased funding for the program, which helps fire departments mitigate exposure to cancer-causing contaminants on equipment. In total, the grant program will award nearly $500,000 statewide.

The grant funding can be used for anything as small as hoods and gloves, to self-contained breathing apparatuses, extractors and vehicle exhaust systems.

Last week, Patronis announced a similar wave of grants for fire departments in the Central Florida area.
