Gov. DeSantis signs bill honoring fallen Pensacola police officers

by Margaret Willard

Gov. Ron DeSantis has signed legislation (SB 160) honoring fallen Pensacola police officers.

The measure renames the portion of Bayfront Parkway between Tarragona Street and 17th Avenue in Escambia County as “Pensacola Police Fallen Heroes Highway.”

The change was one of more than two dozen road name changes in the legislation, which lawmakers approved during this year’s Legislative Session. Republican Sen. Gayle Harrell sponsored the bill, while Republican Rep. Jayer Williamson carried the House version.

Republican Rep. Alex Andrade, one of the House cosponsors, celebrated the signing in a social media post. The law will take effect on July 1.
