Escambia County Republican Rep. Michelle Salzman cemented a friendship with firefighters in the 2022 Legislative Session.
Salzman carried a proposal in the House extending existing firefighter cancer coverage to fire investigators. The Senate companion measure (SB 838) now awaits Gov. Ron DeSantis’ signature.
Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis serves as Florida’s State Fire Marshal. In a statement, he asserted investigators and firefighters “never fail” to answer the call to protect life and property in Florida.
“It is critical that we provide these men and women the support they need if faced with a life-changing cancer diagnosis,” Patronis said of the bill.
