Doug Broxson faces former congressional candidate in SD 1 re-election bid

Incumbent Sen. Doug Broxson is facing former congressional candidate John Mills in the Senate District 1 Republican Primary Election.

Broxson was first elected to the state Senate in 2016 after serving in the state House the previous six years.

Mills is seeking election after two failed congressional campaigns, losing to U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz in 2016 and 2020.

SD 1 covers Escambia and Santa Rosa counties and part of Okaloosa County.

The winner of the Aug. 23 Primary Election will then face Charlie Nichols, who is the Democratic nominee with no primary opponents, in the Nov. 8 General Election.
