U.S. Army Maj. Nicholas Dockery, who served in the 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) has been named Army Times Soldier of the Year.
Dockery was wounded in combat by hand grenades while serving in Afghanistan, but he stayed there and finished his deployment as a Platoon Leader. He later served as the Delta Company Executive Officer upon redeployment.
“Nick is the epitome of a warrior-scholar [to which] we all aspire,” the 7th Group’s commander Col. Kevin Trujillo said.
Dockery has earned numerous military awards and decorations, among them the Purple Heart, Silver Star Medal, Bronze Star Medal and National Defense Medal.
