by Margaret Willard

A former Santa Rosa County Deputy Sheriff has pleaded guilty to state and federal felony charges.

Scott P. Haines pled guilty in federal court to making false statements to the FBI regarding his misuse of an elderly woman’s finances. Haines wrongfully deposited rental payments from her tenants into his own bank account. In state court he pled guilty to the “unauthorized access or use of a computer system or network in relation to law enforcement systems.”

Haines is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 17 at the United States Courthouse in Pensacola. He faces up to five years in federal prison.
