Escambia County Commission candidate arrested for openly carrying gun

by carlislewillard

A candidate running for the Escambia County Commission was arrested over the weekend and charged with openly carrying a handgun July 4.

Republican Stan McDaniels had a handgun tucked into the front of his pants while waving at cars at the intersection of Main and Baylen streets when officers from the Pensacola Police Department were called to the scene.

The 39-year-old, running against Commissioner Robert Bender in the District 4 Republican Primary Election, livestreamed his 30-minute exchange with police on his campaign’s Facebook page.

Under state law guns must be concealed in public, and a permit is required to carry them.
