United Way of West Florida awards grants

by Chris Schroder

Twenty-five nonprofit organizations in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties received $480,000 in grants from the United Way of West Florida.

More than $163,000 went to organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters Northwest Florida, Boys and Girls Club of the Emerald Coast and Children’s Home Society of Florida in Escambia County. More than $101,000 went to financial stability programs, and health organizations received more than $215,000.

Agencies must apply for the grants and then present their pitches to volunteers from the community. The agencies selected by the volunteers must be approved by the United Way of West Florida’s Board of Directors.
