White House honors Pensacola police officer with Medal of Valor

by carlislewillard

The White House has honored Pensacola police officer Anthony Giorgio with the Medal of Valor.

Giorgio earned the award by rescuing drowning teenagers at Johnson Beach on Mother’s Day 2021. Giorgio was off-duty that day, when his mother spotted the struggling teenagers. He sprang into action, saving two children and a woman and bringing them to safety.

Giorgio was one of 15 first responders honored at the White House ceremony. His daughter also attended.

“My 8-year-old daughter got to witness that,” he said. “My daughter thinks I’m a superhero. I think it’s pretty funny because you’re just doing your job.”
