Sentencing again delayed for man accused of attempting to extort Matt Gaetz

by carlislewillard

The sentencing for Stephen Alford, who is accused of attempting to extort Rep. Matt Gaetz, is now scheduled for Aug. 22 after being delayed for a fifth time.

As recapped by the Northwest Florida Daily News, Alford was accused of falsely promising that he could secure a pardon for Gaetz from President Donald Trump in exchange for $25 million. That money would have then allegedly been used to free a former CIA agent held in Iran.

Gaetz, of course, is still under investigation for allegedly having sex with an underage girl. Alford could face up to 20 years in prison.
