Walton County’s Beach Ambassadors program is moving from the county’s Tourism Department to its Code Compliance wing.
The program faced staffing cuts along with the designation shift.
The Beach Ambassadors have helped welcome tourists in the past, educating them about the regional ecosystem, as well as local beach rules. But some worry that the Ambassadors could begin taking a more combative enforcement approach with the new changes.
“I struggle to find how the visitor experience and the stewardship initiatives align with the Beach Ambassadors not being part of the TDC,” said Jennifer Frost, Chair of the county’s Tourist Development Council.
