UWF study reveals ‘period poverty’ on campus

by carlislewillard

A recent University of West Florida study shows “period poverty” is prevalent on campus. The term describes an inability for students to access clean menstrual hygiene products.

The anonymous survey found that nearly 19% of undergraduates experienced period poverty in the last 12 months, while around 8% experienced it every month in the last year.

UWF’s student government is now working to raise awareness of free menstrual products available on campus.

“We are working on increasing awareness and advertising the availability of these products on campus,” said SGA Student Affairs Vice Chair Steven Wiktorski . “The products are purchased by SGA.”
