U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio is championing legislation that provides healthcare coverage to veterans ailed by toxic pollution in war zones.
A Florida Republican, Rubio said Tuesday that the Senate will vote on burn pit legislation before August. He and U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York are sponsoring legislation to support veterans exposed to toxic pollution.
“It’s bipartisan, but it doesn’t have unanimous support in either party,” Rubio told reporters per the Pensacola News Journal.
Rubio discussed the legislation Tuesday at a Pensacola campaign event. Some attendees said they served near a burn pit in Iraq or Afghanistan.
