Panhandle residents recover thousands in unclaimed property

by Margaret Willard

Panhandle residents in March recovered more than $844,000 in unclaimed property.

Unclaimed property consists of financial assets lost or left behind by owners – think uncashed checks, safety deposit boxes and dormant back accounts.

According to the Division of Unclaimed Property, Pensacola residents in March recovered more than $593,000 while Panama City residents scored $251,000.

“I have made it my personal mission to put money back into the pockets of Floridians where it belongs,” said Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis. “We have more than $2 billion left in unclaimed property just waiting to be claimed right now!”
