The Florida League of Cities has honored Niceville Councilman Bill Schaetzle with the 2022 Home Rule Hero Award.
The award goes to the fiercest advocates of home rule – a concept asserting local governments should address local issues with the least amount of state involvement.
“On behalf of the league and its legislative team, we’re very proud to present this year’s Home Rule Hero Awards to a deserving group of municipal leaders,” said Florida League of Cities Legislative Affairs Director Casey Cook.
Schaetzle was first elected in 2011 to the city council. He and his wife have lived in Niceville since 1999.
