House and Senate budget writers have agreed to spend $345,000 on a new fire truck for the Nettle Ridge Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) in Calhoun County.
“The new truck will help the VFD to respond and act efficiently and effectively to any emergency and/or non-emergency situations in the community, for all citizens within the department’s range of assistance,” according to an appropriations request filed by Rep. Jason Shoaf.
Nettle Ridge VFD has a coverage area of 90 square miles and 10 firefighters. The funding request also says the VFD’s current truck is aging and in need of replacement.
